HISTORY Bridgnorth Town joined the Worcestershire Combination in 1938, but only managed one season of play before the league disbanded due to World War II. Records are unclear as to where they played after the war, but in 1968 they rejoined the league, now called the Midland Football Combination. They were runners-up in 1976/77 and 1980/81 and champions in 1979/80 and 1982/83, their second title enabling them to step up to the Southern League, where they played for over a decade but rarely finished above mid-table. In 1995/96 they finished bottom and were relegated to the Midland Football Alliance. Again, they were generally a mid-table team until 2004/05 when they finished bottom and returned to the Midland Combination after more than 20 years. However, after just one season in the Combination, a re-organisation of the Step 6 leagues in the region saw them moved into the West Midlands Regional League.

HISTORY > The club was founded in 1955 under the name Oldswinford F.C., and it was under this name that they first joined the West Midlands League in 1975. In 1993 they changed their name to Brierley Hill Town, and under this name they were founder members of the Midland Alliance in 1994. Unfortunately their first season in that league saw them finish bottom, having won just three times all season, and they returned to the West Midlands League, where they remain to this day. In 2001, financial difficulties led to them merging with West Hagley F.C. of the Midland Combination to form Brierley and Hagley F.C., initially ground-sharing with Halesowen Harriers F.C.

HISTORY Dudley Employees Sports and Social Club was founded in June 1979 from the ashes of the Marsh and Baxter works team which had competed for many years in local works leagues before the parent company folded. In 1985 the new club joined the Midland Combination, initially in Division Two. Despite only finishing ninth in the league, they were placed in Division One for the following season, and were promoted to the Premier Division in 1997, even though they had only finished seventh. In 1999 Sports finished rock bottom and were relegated back to Divison One, but bounced back in 2003. In 2006 the step 5 leagues in the West Midlands area underwent some re-organisation and Sports were moved into the West Midlands Regional League. The only FA knock-out competition in which the club has competed was the 2003/04 FA Vase, but unfortunately their first qualifying round match saw them defeated 8-0 by Oldbury United. The club also operates teams in other sports, including darts, bowls and even pigeon racing.

WEBSITE

From Sports' Website > Dudley Employees Sports + Social Club was founded in June 1979 from the demise of The Marsh + Baxter's Company. Over 20 years on people still refer to our club as "The Old Marsh's Club". The football section of our club is very strong boasting 3 teams. Our first team plays in the West Midland Premier League. Our Sunday section play in the Kidderminster and District Premier League and our youth team play in the Midland Floodlit League. Other sporting sections in our club include Bowls, Darts, Runners and Pigeon Flyers, all of who have played a prominent part in our success story over the years. With our excellent grounds and facilities here at High Ercal we hope the our success will Continue for many years to come. Before entering the Midland Combination the club played in the Birmingham Works as Marsh + Baxter's for many years. In the final year they were league champions and winners of the Bass Cup, Prudential Cup and the Paddy Mason Shield. The club started life in the Midland Combination in Division Two, moving to division one 3 years later. They are twice winners of the Presidents cup in 1989/90 and 2002/3 also winners of the Worcester Junior Cup 1998. Whilst receiving one of the lottery grants in 1995, they were one of the first to have floodlights. However as the league has progressed the need for upgrade was necessary and the club have just spent £38,000 on new floodlights and are now looking to start work soon on upgrading the changing facilities.

DIRECTIONS For the next couple of years DUDLEY TOWN will be sharing with Alliance neighbours Stourbridge. Head out toward Stourbridge on the Kingswinford-Stourbridge Road (A491) Ground is on right at end of Amblecote High Street, opposite turning for hospital.

HISTORY Dudley Town FC was founded in 1893, and in 1898 incorporated another club from the town, Dudley St Johns, moving onto the latter's ground at Shavers End and entering the Birmingham League. After World War I the club was dormant for a number of years, but in 1928 it was re-formed and entered the Cradley Heath and District League, before moving on to the Worcestershire Combination. In 1932 the club moved into the Sports Ground, which had been built as part of a project to provide work for the large number of unemployed men in the borough in the inter-war years. Over 16,000 people attended the opening match at what was to remain the Robins' home for fifty years. In the early 1930s Dudley dominated the Worcestershire Combination and soon moved up to the more prestigious Birmingham League, unfortunately the club could not bear the increased financial strain and folded shortly before World War II. After the war the club was resurrected and progressed via the Birmingham Combination to rejoin the Birmingham League, which in 1962 was re-named the West Midlands Regional League. This was the heyday of the club, with a number of successful League campaigns, leading to admission to the Southern League, as well as a memorable run to the first round of the FA Cup, where they were drawn against York City and held them to a draw at The Sports Ground before losing 4-1 in a replay. There was also substantial re-development of the ground during this period, including the installation of floodlights which were switched on by local hero Billy Wright. Reportedly Wolves even turned down a prestigious close season tour to allow Billy to perform the ceremony. Unfortunately, shortly after the club won promotion to the Southern League Premier Division in 1984, the collapse of mine workings under the adjacent cricket ground saw their stadium closed down and condemned, forcing the club to ground share with a number of different local clubs. In 1988 the club moved to a new permanent home at the Round Oak Stadium in Brierley Hill, where they celebrated a successful centenary year, however by 1996 the costs of the ground were spiralling. The club officially moved out in 1996, to a groundshare arrangement at the home of Halesowen Town, with plans to sell Round Oak. However, the proposed sale dragged on, and in 1997, facing increasing financial difficulties, the club was forced to resign its place in the Southern League and close down. In late 1997, club president Nevil Jeynes reformed the club and they were accepted into the West Midlands (Regional) League, exactly 100 years after they had first joined its predecessor, the Birmingham League. After two years ground sharing with local rivals Gornal Athletic, the decision was taken to leave the borough of Dudley and play at The Beeches, home of Tividale. However, after a four year exile, Town returned to the borough in 2003, having signed a deal to play for the next five years at The War Memorial Ground, Amblecote, Stourbridge. Nonetheless, the club still plans to eventually return to a ground in the heart of Dudley itself, and hopes to challenge for an eventual return to the Southern League.

HISTORY Ludlow Town F.C. based in Ludlow, Shropshire, & were established in 1890, joining the West Midlands Regional League Division Two in 1978.

Ludlow Town was founded in 1890 and played on council grounds around the town until 1981 when they acquired their own facilities at The Riddings Park.

The club played in the South Shropshire, North Herefordshire, Kidderminster and Shropshire County Leagues until 1978 when their success in local football was rewarded with election to the West Midland (Regional) League Division Two. In their debut season they won the title to clinch promotion to Division One.

The club was mainly a mid-table side until 1990/91 when they finished as runners-up in Division One to Cradley Town, unfortunately they were denied promotion as their ground did not come up to the required standard. After ground improvements were made, the club was elected into the newly formed Premier Division in 1994 and during their first season at that level also reached the Premier League Cup Final and won the Shropshire County Cup and the Presteigne Otway Cup.

In 1995 Town merged with local rivals Ludlow Colts, as the town was proving unable to sustain two clubs. In 2000 Les Bristow took over as manager and led the club to the championship of the Premier Division, dominating the division with just one loss all season and 100 goals scored. This saw the club promoted to the Midland Alliance, where they spent four seasons before succumbing to relegation in 2005. During this time they also re-located to their new ground, The SBS Stadium.

HISTORY Shifnal Town F.C. are based in Shifnal, Shropshire, reaching the 4th round of the FA Vase three times in their history. They are now playing in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division having moved from the Midland Football Combination in 2006.

.

Although other clubs with similar names had played in the town since Victorian times, the modern incarnation of Shifnal Town FC was founded in 1964 as St Andrews Youth Club FC, based at Idsall School and initially playing in the Wellington and District League. They soon changed their name to Shifnal Juniors and in 1968 were promoted to Division Two, which they won at the first attempt and then successfully applied to join the Shropshire County Football League. In 1972 the club changed its name once again to Shifnal Town and in 1976 the team won the County League title and were elected to the West Midlands Regional League.

In 1979 Town, by now playing at Admirals Park, won promotion to the Premier Division. They went on to win consecutive Premier Division Championships in 1980/81 and 1981/82, with promotion to the Southern League only being denied due to a lack of floodlights.

In 1985 the club saw their lease on Admirals Park terminated and were forced to resign from the league and return to the County league, playing once again at Idsall School. Nonetheless, the club was able to purchase the land to build a new ground, Phoenix Park. At the same time, success in the County league saw them able to step up to the Midland Football Combination in 1993/94, with a successful first season enabling them to become founder members of the new Midland Football Alliance. Their best season at this level was their first, after which their performances declined until they finished bottom in 1997/98, and only avoided relegation as no clubs from the Alliance's feeder leagues were eligible for promotion.

The club finally succumbed to relegation in 2002/03 and spent three seasons back in the Midland Combination before a re-organisation of the leagues in the West Midlands area in 2006 saw them return to the West Midlands Regional League after 20 years away.

GROUND Before the start of the 2006/07 season, Halesowen Town terminated the ground share agreement with Causeway United, who were then able to secure a deal to share with Tividale. @ The Grove, Old Hawne Lane, Halesowen, Worcestershire, B63 3TB Telephone > 0121 550 2179

HISTORY Tividale F.C. was formed in 1954 as the senior branch of Tividale Hall Youth Club F.C and originally played in the Handsworth and District League, before moving on to the Warwickshire & West Midlands Alliance. In 1966 they joined the newly formed West Midlands (Regional) League Division One. In 1973 they gained promotion to the Premier Division and remained there for nearly 20 years, with a best-placed finish of 4th.In 1991 the club were relegated to Division One due to no longer being able to meet the required ground standards for the top division, and these events led to a number of management and playing staff leaving the club. New manager Terry Jones was able to turn the club's fortunes around and in 1993 Tividale finished second in Division One and won promotion back into the Premier. Unfortunately in the same year the Midland Alliance was formed, moving the West Midlands League one step down the pyramid, so in a sense the club had not advanced.Since their return to the Premier Division Tividale have generally been a mid-table side, although in 2001/02 they finished second, despite having three points deducted. Between 2002 and 2004 the club reached the final of the Walsall Senior Cup in three successive seasons, winning the trophy in 2003.

The founders were John Perkins and Robert Morgan. The first league the club entered was Division 3 of the Herefordshire Football League. In 1978 the club moved to a new village playing field and, following the building of new wooden changing rooms in 1981, was invited into the Herefordshire Premier Division. The club has won the championship of this league on seven occasions, the most recent three times by the reserve team following the promotion up the pyramid of the first team.In the mid-90s extensive improvement work was carried out on the facilities at the Playing Fields and, following a Herefordshire Premier League and Cup double in 1996-97, the club successfully applied to join the West Midlands Regional League. In their second season they finished champions of Division 1 South and also won the League Cup, but were not promoted to the Premier Division as their ground did not yet meet the requirements for that level of football. In 1999-2000 the team finished second and retained the league cup and, following a fund raising drive, further ground improvements were made which allowed the club to be promoted to the Premier Division where they remain to this day, achieving their highest ever finish in 2004/05.

Wyrley Rangers (in red) on the attack against Gornal Athletic in a WMRL game in September 2006. In the 2004/05 season the club started off poorly but turned their fortunes after the arrival of Tony Wall as manager, with a run of 12 successive wins carrying them to third place in the Division One table. Two resignations from the Premier Division gave them an opportunity to apply for Premier status, which they were granted providing the ground grading criteria could be met prior to the League AGM on June 30th. Plans to upgrade the ground for possible future Premier Division status had always been on the cards, but suddenly the work had to completed in less than three weeks. The club completed the work with just hours to spare and were therefore able to take their place in the Premier Division for the 2005/06 season.
